Launched last year around the world’s first electric plane, whose main source of energy is solar panels, may soon be successful. The event started in March last year was discontinued several months later, during the trip from Japan to Hawaii. Although a five-day flight without any break allowed to break the record of flight length and distance traveled this amazing machine, but severely damaged it.

During the inspection in Hawaii, it turned out that the high temperature destroyed the storage batteries generated by the photovoltaic cells covering the wings, so the flight was impossible.

Over the past seven months, the machine was grounded as service work ended, replacing batteries, and installing a new battery stabilization and cooling system.

The 90-minute test flight showed no problems, so at the end of April Solar Impulse 2 will be able to continue the journey. Its first stage will be a four-day flight from Hawaii to the west coast of the United States, and then back to its starting point, Abu Dhabi.

Solar Impulse 2 is an airplane with a wingspan of up to 72 meters, so it is significantly larger than the Boeing 747, however, its weight is only 2300 kg. It was obtained through the use of carbon fiber, as well as the special technology used in racing yachts, which makes the plating three times lighter than paper. The machine is powered by four electric motors, which deliver 17,248 photovoltaic panels of just 135 microns thick, embedded in the wing surface and protected with fluorine copolymer. The energy produced by them is then stored in polymer batteries of a total weight of 633 kg.

Thanks to this drive the machine has almost unlimited range and moves at an average speed of 50-100 km / h.

The MQ-8C Fire Scout UAS is the latest weapon of the American Navy, which has just undergone extensive testing. It is an unmanned aerial vehicle designed specifically for naval missions, which features a vertical launch and landing capability.

Drones used by the US military, usually take off from airports or are fired from special catapults. However, the Navy tests a completely new model MQ-8C Fire Scout UAS, which can take off and landing like a regular helicopter.

The MQ-8C is a newer, larger and more refined version of the MQ-8B Fire Scout, which can also land and take off vertically and is designed to operate in the Pacific. The machine made its maiden flight in the fall of 2013 and although it is still testing before entering service, the Navy has already ordered 17 copies of these unmanned.

New drones have greater reach and payload and can stay in the air for up to 10 hours. The unmanned carrier can carry about 330 kg of cargo with its maximum range of 150 nautical miles. The machine weighs a total of 1500 kg and can reach a ceiling of 6000 m. It is powered by a single Rolls-Royce engine.

The drive is based on the modified version of the commercial Bell 407 helicopter, and most avionics have been borrowed from the MQ-8B. The machine is equipped with FLIR’s BRITE Star II IR-based infrared light sensor, which illuminates the target targets for missiles, and uses it to measure distances.

Autonomous cars do not need a driver, so they could not drive in New York so far, because they would be in violation of the rules.

Of course there are several conditions that car manufacturers have to fulfill. The driver should have a valid driver’s license. In addition, tests must be conducted under the direct supervision of the state police and representatives of the City Department of Motor Vehicles.
